What does it cost to join?   The initial fee to join the unit is $150.00.  This fee includes registry into the world-wide Young Marine ranks (upon successful completion of boot camp), training materials, uniform and boots, unit PT gear, and the remainder goes into the unit slush fund.  (We are, after all, a non-profit unit!)

What is boot camp?  Boot camp is a necessary requirement to join the Young Marine program.  For 13 weeks, the recruits will meet and receive training in discipline, phyical fitness, close-order drill and other basic requirements.  A recruit cannot miss any of the basic training.

What if I cannot complete boot camp, for whatever reason?   As leaders, we do what we can to provide the recruits with ample opportunity to complete basic training.  Sometimes, for whatever reason, that does not happen.  If that situation arrives, the recruit, parents and leaders meet and discuss options based on the situation or reasoning why the training cannot be completed.  For the most part, the recruit is afforded the opportunity to come back to the next boot camp and start over.  *There are no refunds but whatever fees have been paid will be honored.  If there is an outstanding balance, as long as the balance is paid in full by completion of boot camp, all is good.  "Recycle", as it is called, is only good for one time.

What do I wear?   During orientation, a recruit application is passed out to those interested in joining.  In that packet, it explains to wear gray shorts, a red t-shirt, socks and tennis shoes.  Any change to that uniform will be passed along during the weekly meetings.

What can I expect during boot camp?  You are encouraged to do things you didn't think you could do.  You are pushed to the limits of what you think is beyond your ability to complete.  Self-discipline, self-respect and self-worth are emphasized in basic training.  This is accomplished through discipline regiments such as physical training, close-order drill and periods of instruction.  Military bearing is another discipline that is expected and adhered to.  Physical fitness is one of the most important items stressed during basic training.  No coddling.  No quitting.  No whining.  No can'ts or won'ts allowed, either.
